A little bit of March 2010

March was filled with loads of activities, never a boring moment in Qatar. Sean was in a creative assembly on 11 March, where they sang the ABBA song Mama Mia - he was part of the choir for the 2nd term of the school year. Unfortunately the choir teacher is going off for maternity leave, so choir is not on for the 3rd term. He was also the usher for the assembly and we were very proud of how he handled some difficult parents. He then handed out the certificates for the year 4 to 6's. He is growing up soooo quickly. It was a fun assembly with some of the other kids showing their talents with music pieces played on the piano, poems being read and a ballet recital. We were privileged to be able to watch the IAAF indoor world champs from 12 - 15 March. Steve got tickets for every day and we joined him on the Friday. I have never been to an indoor athletics event, it is much faster and busier than the outdoor ones. We got to see records being broken and Croatian Blanka Vlasic wome...

The missing piece of January :-)

Image
so somehow along writing about Feb, I forgot January right out .... 4/8 January And an exciting month it was, the early part of January was spent watching my favourite game of Tennis, with Nadal and Federer .... at last as I missed out last year. The kids loved it as well, and happily shouted out "Come on Federer or Go Roger" to our delight, especially when the stadium was silent.... and each time it would elicit a few chuckles from those around us. Davydenko won the tournament this year against Nadal, most importantly we got to see Roger :-) 13 January Sean once again shone in an assembly show of Matilda, where he and a few classmates did their own version of the Roald Dahl book. It was well adapted by the kids, who also did the stage props, casting and directing. Sean managed to do 3 different roles: the parrot, the ghost of Miss Honeys father and Michael Wormwood, Matilda's brother..... we were really really proud of him :-) 19 January Sean in the meantime has been w...

Life is busy at the moment

wow, busy busy February.... from our trip to the tip of Qatar called Al Gahiya on the Al Shamal (North Road), it took us about 2 hours to get there that is with stops along the way. Not much to see, lots of sand and dunes and rocks. The sea at Al Gahiya is very very blue, but mainly from the limestone in it. It is very smelly, and not s sea that you would want to swim in. But very very pretty!! Week 2 of Feb was spent exploring the Zekreet area. We went through Zekreet town, with a total of about 10 houses, on to the movie set that has been built for the crews to do desert type movies, and a "kraal" like donga area with round stone huts, all looked rather eerie. On our travels we passed by hikers (who we thought were all mad to even contemplate hiking the desert), but then we saw mountain bikers and then realised that they were really really mad :-) it was so hot we actually felt really sorry for them.... We did find a lovely spot on the beach, with a wind barrier of r...
